For the first time on For The Love Of Cruise, we welcome guest contributors Justin and Will who have kindly taken time out of their honeymoon to give insights around their unexpected twist and turns as they adventure across the Atlantic to the Caribbean.
Ahoy there cruisers, tell us a bit about yourselves:
We are Justin and Will and have come on P&O Arvia for a Transatlantic Cruise to the Caribbean for our honeymoon! We are both in our mid 30s and this is our 2nd 2 week cruise we have had together so far. More in the pipeline!
From reading the news, it sounds like it’s been quite eventful so far. Tell us about it:
When arriving to board Arvia, we were delayed due to the aftermath of Storm Benjamin. The staff at the terminal and onboard were working as quickly as possible to ensure a smooth embarkation. Sadly, on the 2nd day of our cruise, a tragic accident occurred onboard with one of the ships employees and family. Everyone is so supportive of each other and as sad as it was, the staff continued their professionalism and carried on. All credit to them!
How have you found the communication onboard?
All along the way, the Captain of the ship has informed us fully of what is going on and kept us all updated of any information that is necessary.
We hear there was another detour to an oil rig, could you elaborate on what happened?
We got an announcement late one evening to say that there was a passenger aboard an oil rig about 50 miles away from us who needed medical attention. As we were the closest vessel, we changed route a little to go and help. As we met the oil rig, we encountered an almighty storm which didn’t help things! The patient is now in the very capable hands of the Arvia medical team.
Have the incidents impacted your itinerary?
The sad passing of the ship’s crew did encounter an emergency stop over at La Coruna in Spain. We then set sail in the early hours of the next morning leaving us with a day shorter at sea to sail over to the Caribbean.
Despite these unexpected incidents, what’s been your highlights so far?
The highlights of our honeymoon so far has to be exploring the ship, relaxing in the gorgeous Oct/Nov winter sunshine and sitting on the balcony with a glass of champagne enjoying the sunsets over the sea!
That sounds fantastic to us! Any ship insights to share with future guests sailing on Arvia?
We would say that people who are looking for a relaxing and stress-free time would enjoy Arvia. However, there are all sorts of activities and things to keep people occupied all day with the specialist team’s programmes etc. We would also recommend researching restaurants onboard and pre-booking where possible to save disappointment!
Thank you to Justin and Will for sharing your experience; we hope you enjoy the rest of your honeymoon onboard Arvia and exploring the Caribbean. We definitely get the vibe that you’ll be future cruise addicts, just like us!
